About
AVAN Taekwondo Martial Art Club
We at Avan Taekwondo IF practice WT Taekwondo which is suitable for anyone to learn the martial art. We are an active member of the Swedish Taekwondo Association / Swedish Taekwondo Union (STF / STU) and the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF).
Our style of taekwondo training incorporates self-defense, sparring and conditioning. Our philosophy is to use taekwondo as a tool to reach and develop the individual both physically and mentally.
We believe that the tenets of Taekwondo are Politeness, Honesty, Endurance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit. Our practitioners are made up of ordinary people of all ages, sizes, and skill levels, the smallest being 5+ years old and older. Together we have discovered the positive impact Taekwondo has on the physical, mental, and overall well-being.
At Avan Taekwondo IF we welcome everyone regardless of gender, age, rank or experience. If you want to let off some steam, have fun, increase your fitness or gain more confidence, this is the place for you.
If you are competitive and enjoy a challenge, we also compete in tournaments and have our fair share of success!
What is required to start taekwondo?
Motivation and regular training are two important things you need if you want to get really good. Strength and fitness help of course, but we work on that in training!
You are most welcome to watch, or why not put on some soft workout clothes and participate for free during a workout.
We promise a dizzying and sweaty experience and look forward to meeting and training with you!
Our way
We don't just train, we create adventures! With us, every training is an opportunity to explore, learn and laugh together with like-minded peers. We take Taekwondo seriously in a playful way, making each exercise an experience in itself.
Our philosophy isn't just about mastering kicks and strikes - it's about mastering life off the mat too. At Avan Taekwondo, the focus is on active learning, where every exercise is a chance to improve yourself and learn valuable life skills.
We believe training should be both rewarding and fun, which is why our coaches are experts at making every class exciting and engaging. We actively work to prevent injuries in the sport. Through interactive exercises and teamwork, kids get more than just physical training - they also build social skills they can carry with them outside the dojang.
But wait, it gets even better! At Avan Taekwondo, our coaches aren't just teachers - they're mentors who inspire and support every student on their personal journey. By creating a positive and inclusive environment, we encourage growth, confidence and friendship among all our members.
So if you're looking for a place where your child can have fun, train and learn valuable life skills at the same time, Avan Taekwondo is the place for you! Come and discover the joy of learning Taekwondo in a fun and professional way - with us, every moment is a chance for progress and adventure!
Taekwondo is a self-defense system that has evolved into a martial sport with its origins in Korea. It began around 2,000 years ago as a form of military training, and today it has transformed the lives of people from all backgrounds who use it as a unique form of fitness, a way to build confidence and self-discipline, or simply to have fun. Taekwondo has spread across the world and became an Olympic sport in 2000 in Sydney, Australia.
Taekwondo is characterized by the use of both hands and feet to keep an opponent at a distance.
What You'll Learn
Practicing the art of Taekwondo helps you become more disciplined and improves your ability to focus on a task. Serious training also lets you improve your fitness level in just a few weeks. Finally, provided you want to, you'll be able to take part in your first sparring tournament (actual fighting!) after just a few months of training. Sparring is a match against an opponent. We also practice Poomsae.
Poomsae is a discipline where you defend against and attack in all directions against more than one imagined opponent. Poomsae is a predetermined pattern in which you move through different stances while striking, blocking, kicking and practicing your breathing. When performed correctly, Poomsae is beautiful to watch. Poomsae trains strength, balance, agility, breathing, speed, coordination and more.
Here's what you can expect in a training session:
We start the session with a light warm-up and stretching. Flexibility is a crucial aspect of Taekwondo. Then we move on to training drills, with the main goal of building endurance and explosiveness. During the main part of our training, we work on performing strong and effective kicks and strikes.
Finally, we wrap up with some light sparring (non-contact for beginners, or with contact for students preparing for competitions). This is the fun part, where you get the chance to put everything you've learned in training into practice.
